Give Your Kitchen Lighting a Make Over

With all the remodeling shows out on television these days, it's certain that you are probably thinking about what you can do to your home to add some “new” to it again. And, if you're like most people who cook a lot, the kitchen is always a place that can use a make-over. But, what if you don't have the money to completely remodel your whole kitchen into one of those sparkling, stainless steel kitchens that make you drool when they are shown on tv? Well, there are some simple things that you can do to change up your kitchen and give it a different feel and look – such as the lighting.

When you look at your kitchen, you probably have the same standard lighting that most kitchens do, a main light overhead and probably one over the kitchen sink as well. Some kitchens have other added lighting around the walls or ceiling, which give it a warmer feel. So, how do you add more lighting in your kitchen, or change up your current lighting, to change up your kitchen? Easy. Here are some tips and ideas that you can do for under $100 that will help to change up your kitchen by simply replacing some of the lights.

1. Under the cabinet lights – These are simple to install and don't cost much at all. Normally, these are fluorescent bulb lights that simply screw in under the outer lip of your top cabinets. There are several different kinds and styles of these lights, and you can find them at any home improvement store in your area. Make sure that you measure the lights and the area under the cabinets where the lights will go so that the lights don't hang out too far under the cabinet, you want them to be flush with the bottom if possible.

2. Track lighting – This type of lighting is great for kitchens that have high shelves or if you would like to highlight a specific area of your kitchen when certain lights are on. These lights are available at any home improvement store as well, and are fairly cheap if you don't go overboard with the amount of lights that you put in. These are also available in a wide variety of colors, so you can coordinate them with your kitchen's colors.

3. Ceiling fan lights – If you don't already have a ceiling fan in your kitchen, it is a great thing to have. Not only does it add new lighting to your existing kitchen, but it gives you a great way to stir up some great smells while you are cooking! There are so many different types, varieties, and colors of ceiling fans that you are sure to find one that is perfect for your kitchen that will add style and a new light to your kitchen.
